FIVE ARRESTED IN RAID ON CLANDESTINE FACTORY BY MALAYSIAN AUTHORITIES
MDTCC Operation Also Results In Seizure Of Two Replicating Lines

Hong Kong / Kuala Lumpur - Acting on a tip-off, 11 enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Co-operatives And Consumerism (MDTCC), with support from Malaysian Federation Against Copyright Theft (MFACT), representing the Motion Picture Association (MPA) in Malaysia, raided a clandestine factory on March 2 in Kampong Baru Sungai Buloh located in the industrial area of Selangor.
The raiding party found five men operating the production lines at the time they entered the factory premises. Two DVD replicating lines and over 5,000 copies of pirated DVD movies were seized, among them were MPA member company titles “Case 39”, “Ninja Assassin” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel”.
All five men have been arrested and are currently in remand for further investigations.
“Today’s successful raid and seizure of unlicensed equipment is the continuation of the Ministry’s efforts in addressing source piracy in Malaysia, with an emphasis on addressing the proliferation of illegal replicating operations of pirated optical discs,” said Mohd. Roslan bin Mahayudin, Director-General of MDTCC’s Enforcement Department. “We are happy with the results and hope that information on such operations, which resulted in this successful raid, will continue to flow. This is a clear signal to the pirates that we will not waver in our efforts to shut them down.”
